Inde Navarrette Joins MCU’s X-Men Movie as Rogue, Reports Reveal

Date:

New York: Marvel Studios has finally made one of the biggest casting announcements surrounding its upcoming X-Men movie, and Inde Navarrette is officially stepping into the role of Rogue. The confirmation came during Disney’s D23 event in Anaheim, California, on August 15, 2026, putting an end to weeks of speculation around the actress and the character.

Navarrette joins a newly assembled X-Men lineup that includes Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Maya Boyd as Storm, Christopher Abbott as Professor X and Samara Weaving as Emma Frost. Adam Driver has also been announced as Mister Sinister.

The announcement is particularly significant because Rogue is one of the most recognizable characters in the X-Men universe. The character was previously played by Anna Paquin in Fox’s X-Men films. This time, Marvel Studios is introducing a new version of the mutant as part of its developing Marvel Cinematic Universe continuity.

The rogue casting MCU story had been surrounded by rumors for much of the summer. Before the official announcement, several reports connected Inde Navarrette with Marvel’s X-Men reboot, but the exact character had not been confirmed.

That changed at D23, where Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige unveiled the principal cast of the new X-Men film. Navarrette was confirmed as Rogue alongside the rest of the first major group of mutants. Reuters reported that the film is scheduled for a theatrical release in May 2028.

Navarrette’s casting also follows an interesting trail of earlier developments. In July, the Obsession star revealed that she had met X-Men director Jake Schreier. She also said she would be open to joining the MCU. At the time, there was no official indication that the meeting had resulted in a role.

Those comments became more notable after reports began suggesting that Marvel was considering her for Rogue. A July report from SuperHeroHype, citing industry scooper MyTimeToShineH, claimed Navarrette was being eyed for the character. That information was only a rumor at the time.

The situation is now different. Marvel’s D23 announcement has confirmed Navarrette’s involvement and her role as Rogue.

The latest confirmed information is that Inde Navarrette will play Rogue in Marvel Studios’ new X-Men movie. The project is being directed by Jake Schreier, who previously worked with Marvel on Thunderbolts*.

The announced cast gives an early indication of the direction Marvel is taking with the reboot. Sadie Sink will play Jean Grey, Kit Connor will portray Scott Summers/Cyclops, Maya Boyd will play Storm, Samara Weaving is Emma Frost, Christopher Abbott is Professor X, and Adam Driver is Mister Sinister.

The film is currently set for May 5, 2028, according to reports following the D23 announcement.

For Navarrette, the role represents a major step after her recent breakout performance in Obsession. She is also known to television audiences for playing Sarah Cushing in Superman & Lois. Her move into one of Marvel’s biggest franchises could give the actress a much larger global audience.

Rogue herself brings plenty of history to the franchise. In Marvel’s comics, the character is known as Anna Marie and has the mutant ability to absorb memories, powers and other abilities through physical contact. Marvel’s official character profile describes her as a Mississippi runaway who eventually becomes an important member and leader of the X-Men.

That history makes the casting an especially interesting choice. Rogue is not simply another member of the team. Her powers create an unusual emotional conflict because physical contact can have serious consequences for both her and the person she touches.

Marvel has not yet revealed how closely the MCU version will follow Rogue’s comic-book origins or how large her role will be in the first X-Men film. Details about her costume, storyline, relationships and powers have also not been officially disclosed.

There is also no indication that this X-Men movie is being developed as an OTT original. The current plan is a theatrical release, with the film scheduled for May 2028. Any eventual streaming release would be a separate announcement and should not be assumed at this stage.

The timing of the announcement is important for the wider MCU as well. Marvel is gradually moving its mutant characters into the central cinematic universe after years in which the X-Men largely existed under the former Fox franchise. The new movie is therefore expected to establish a fresh interpretation of the team while opening another major chapter for Marvel’s mutant storyline.

For fans who followed the casting rumors, Navarrette’s confirmation also closes one of the more closely watched questions surrounding Rogue. Earlier reports had linked other actresses to the role, including Cailee Spaeny, while Navarrette remained one of the names circulating in fan and industry discussions. Those earlier reports should now be viewed in the context of Marvel’s official casting announcement rather than treated as current casting information.

The rogue casting MCU mystery is no longer a rumor. Marvel Studios has officially cast Inde Navarrette as Rogue in its upcoming X-Men movie, marking a major new chapter for both the actress and the character.

With Jake Schreier directing and a cast featuring Sadie Sink, Kit Connor, Maya Boyd, Samara Weaving, Christopher Abbott and Adam Driver, Marvel’s mutant reboot is already shaping up as one of the studio’s most closely watched upcoming projects. The film is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 5, 2028, while further story and production details are still being kept under wraps.
